Our Visit to Boyne City – Oct 1, 2024:

Surprise!!! Brad & I woke up to a Thunderstorm on Sunday morning.  I enjoyed watching & listening to the storm while savoring my coffee and  enjoying our favorite Sunday Morning show.

After awhile, I have to admit, I was checking the weather because we had been enjoying being active during the beautiful fall weather and we were looking forward to another great day of exploring!

Once it looked somewhat clear and the rain was forecasted to stop, we headed out toward Boyne City as it was on our “to see” list.  Not to mention that Brad had skied there when he was a “kid”!

First – Lunch @ Lake Street Pub

Once we got there (it was about an hour drive), we were both hungry so parked in the downtown area and started walking to find a restaurant.  We saw Lake Street Pub  and thought that looks good!  I had a reuben (86 Thousand Island Dressing) & Brad had a mushroom burger.  We were both happy as we got sandwiches that the other would not like!

After lunch we walked around Boyne City a bit and enjoyed the quiet outside and definitely want to come back!

About Boyne

Boyne City is a city in Charlevoix County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,816 at the 2020 census, making it the largest city in Charlevoix County. Boyne City is located at the eastern end of Lake Charlevoix, Michigan’s third largest inland lake.

I found a great website for Boyne City and can’t wait to go back and explore some more!  Boyne City Mainstreet.  It also noted that Boyne City was recognized nationally with the Great American Main Street Award in 2020!

We walked around a bit but, it was quiet due to a overcast Sunday and they had an event the Saturday before that we missed.

Walk About:

We enjoyed walking around on this quiet day.  There was a lot to see!

Once I got home to research the piece shown below, I found that this is part of the Walkabout Series.

The year-round Boyne City Walkabout Sculpture Show features outdoor sculptures from regionally renowned artists.  There is a prominent sculpture on the Boyne river that celebrates the logging history.  I did not see this but, read about when researching the art work below. More information on Boyne City Main Street.  This is now on my bucket list!

This led me to look up more information on the Art in Boyne City.  “The Boyne Arts Center’s mission, as a non-profit, is to inspire, serve & strengthen community through the arts. See more here, Boyne Arts Center.

And I believe that I need to shop more when I return!

Once I got home to research, I found that this permanent work of art at the river mouth is the “Draco Viewer” by Wally Barkley.  I like the bird nest with Mom having the worm for the babies!
